Information Technology Networks

Computers are linked by information technology networks to share files, data and other resources. They employ a system of rules referred to as communication protocols to transfer data using wireless and physical technologies. A network topology is a way that a network is arranged to form a connection between devices and systems in different ways, including bus mesh, ring, fully connected (or complete), star, hierarchical and tree. These types of structures come with different advantages, disadvantages and prices for the business that uses them. A topology can be physical or logical, and could be private or a public one.

In a computer network, the central component, which could be the hub or switch connects to other computers that send and receive messages. The central component, also known as a server, is called the node. This is among the most popular configurations for networks, but it is not without its flaws such as a single broken cable that can cut off communications.
